Special Delivery: The Pink Unicorn Head

The package lay sitting on the steps of the estate. Everleigh frowned as she glanced at the name. Glancing around she seemed to be looking for who had left it. It was wrapped in plain brown paper with nothing but a name written on it. Her name written on it was the most confusing part of all. The young witch rarely traveled outside her estate and when she did it was only to her father’s. There were few people who knew her and as such those that did would simply hand her a gift.

Picking it up she made her way to the swing on the porch sitting down she crossed one leg over the other as she tore away the wrapping. She removed the box inside and carefully opened it peering in at the contents. The young woman frowned as she peered inside a look of shock crossing her face. If she wasn’t the daughter of Kyrell Giese she might have screamed at the contents. She picked up the small white object with pink hair. The tiny unicorn head had come from the creature she had created for her little friend. Her same friend that had been missing for days now. She frowned at the severed head the once bright eyes staring dully at her.

With a growl she lifted the other object a small severed ear looking as if it belonged to a small child. It turned her thoughts dark as she imagined it being cut off her young friend. If someone had hurt her she would rip them apart with her bare hands. The witch closed her eyes trying to get a hold of her emotions less she lose control of her powers as well. After a moment, she picked up the piece of paper and frowned at the note inside. The note that said if she wanted to see her friend alive again she would come.
Ever bite down on her lower lip. She wasn’t supposed to go out on her own. Her father would be furious if she did. But, her friend might be hurting right now. Ever knew what it was like to be a child and be tortured. She knew what it was like to hope and pray someone would come for you. And her friend was counting on her. However, she wasn’t a stupid girl and if she enlisted help she would have an advantage.

She vanished appearing without a second thought always being one to act and not over think something. She appeared at the Giese estate. Moving through it servants scattered being acutely aware of the vibes coming from the young woman. She frowned as she entered her father’s throne room unable to locate him. She continued to move not able to find her brothers either. She could wait but it was hard to say when they might return and every moment she waited her friend was in danger. She had no idea how long the stranger who sent the note would allow her to live. Nor did she want to endure one moment more than needed in the hands of the monster.

Images of her own past once again insulted her as she could see herself lying in her bed. She pleaded with her mother to stop hurting her. The experiments had taken a toll on both her body and her mind as her mother tried to blend the living and the dead. She could still remember her father coming for her and the thought that he would kill her. She was a monster. The pain was still fresh in her mind and it still existed to this day. She would not allow her friend to suffer needlessly. Her father could be mad all he wanted. She would accept whatever punishment he deemed necessary. The child was her friend and thus she considered her family and family always came first.

She took the paper in her hand as she closed her fist around it letting it fall to the ground as she vanished out of sight and reappeared at the location on the paper. Ever took a moment to take in her surroundings. It was a rather unremarkable place all things considered. A small cabin in the middle of the wood, the kind of place people came to stay during fishing trips and such nothing special.

She moved to open the door peering inside. A small single bed sat in the center of the room and the only light a soft pale light shone down upon it. Ever frowned as she could see the small form on the bed as she moved towards it. The form was covered by the blanket and was very still. She glanced around seeing no one else as she focused her powers seeking out anyone that might be hiding within the shadows. Sensing nothing she moved towards the bed. She called out softly to her friend. “Hey…it’s me. Are you alright?” The doubt could be heard in her voice as she lifted the blanket slowly away as if afraid it would bite.

A gasp could be heard as the blanket suddenly exploded in her hand a result of her own powers flaring up at that moment. The tiny little body was littered with scars and her eyes would have been like those of the unicorn were they still there. She had been dead she would guess for at least a day which meant whoever sent the note had killed her before sending the note. Her rage was now a tangible thing as it lashed through the room objects shattering as she lifted the small body and held it close to her. She had failed her friend.

She could see the girl in her eyes as she had declared it the day she had made her the tiny pink haired unicorn. My friend she had said over and over again. She hadn’t wanted to leave Ever’s side. She had failed the child. She hadn’t found her fast enough. She should have looked the first day. She should have torn the world apart. She had waited hoping her father would find her. The tears streaked down her cheeks as her powers lashed out around her. The world bending as she ripped holes in reality around her. Creatures would form only to explode moments later. The ground under her feet would start to decay as it creeps through the building to the outside world. The cabin melting to dust as it spread to the tree lines. Everything aging, dying, decaying to nothing and the young witch didn’t care.

If she keep it up her own powers would consume her, the control she had always maintained was lost in her anger and grief. She stayed where she was not paying attention as animals scattered to get away. She stayed there for the longest time unaware of the man who had appeared carefully behind her. It was the sound of a voice that would suddenly cut through the chaos. How he had avoided being affected she might never know. She just knew she heard him say, “Hello, Ever.” As his lashed out suddenly the blunt edge of the blade coming against her face before she had time to react. She embraced the darkness willing for no pain existed there.
